Meet the WKFSA Trustees

The WK Foundation of South Africa is made up of UWC alumni, staff, students, parents and friends of Waterford and the UWC who have come together to raise funds towards educating students at Waterford Kamhlaba.


Sandile Hlophe

WK UWCSA (1984–1989)

Sandile is a trustee and Chairman of the Waterford Kamhlaba Foundation of South Africa. He is an experienced business transformation and corporate finance Partner at Ernst & Young (EY). READ MORE


Catherine Hunter

WK UWCSA (1971–1977)

Catherine is a trustee of the Waterford Kamhlaba Foundation of South Africa and currently serves on the Governing Council of Waterford too. She is a past student, a past parent and is active in alumni networks of the earliest two decades of Waterford’s life. READ MORE


David Crush

WK UWCSA (1970-1974)

David is a trustee of the Waterford Kamhlaba Foundation of South Africa. During his long career in development finance he has worked for a number of multilateral development banks. READ MORE


Monwabisi Fandeso

WK UWCSA (1971-1977)

Monwabisi is a trustee of the Waterford kaMhlaba Foundation of South Africa. He is an experienced business leader having held senior positions in various industries including beverages, energy, agriculture, tourism and financial services. He is currently an Independent non Executive Director at Thebe Investment Corporation, Empact and Santam. READ MORE

Itumeleng is a trustee of the Waterford Kamhlaba Foundation of South Africa. Itumeleng has advised the senior leadership of multinationals. READ MORE


Jeremy Lock

WK UWCSA (1978–1980)

Jeremy is a trustee of the Waterford Kamhlaba Foundation of South Africa. Since leaving WK in 1980, he has been involved in the tourism industry in Africa. This included hotel management, a theme restaurant and hotel, and now owns and runs a company that designs and supplies destination management services to tourists wishing to travel to Africa. READ MORE


Mandi Mzimba

WK UWCSA (1971–1976)

Mandi is a Senior Health Policy Specialist at Discovery Health (Pty) Ltd. I have over twenty years of experience in health policy analysis, and more than a decade of direct involvement or collaboration with the public sector. My responsibilities include monitoring, analysing and responding to government health policy developments such that business risks are mitigated and solutions are jointly developed in the best interest of the members of medical schemes. Onele Bikitsha

WK UWCSA (2012–2017)

Onele is the Administrator of the Waterford Kamhlaba Foundation of South Africa. Having completed his studies in 2017, he remained on as a volunteer at WK throughout 2018 primarily working as the Librarian’s assistant. He is currently a student at the University of the Witwatersrand where he is studying towards obtaining an LLB Degree. Even though he is no longer at WK, Onele is still heavily involved in the life of the college. READ MORE


Sibongile Gumbi

WK UWCSA (1984-1986)

PC UWC (89-91 – Year 16)

Sibongile is a Trustee and past Chairman of the Waterford Kamhlaba Foundation of South Africa. She served on the Governing Council for 4 years. She is an entrepreneur in the biotechnology field where she is involved in the development and manufacture of novel animal health vaccines. Having studied Pharmacy, Sibongile has a PhD in Pharmacology and a MBA. Thulani Gcabashe

WK UWCSA (1970-1973)

Thulani is a trustee of the Waterford Kamhlaba Foundation of South Africa. Thulani began his career as a town and regional planner in 1982. After practicing as a director with a firm of architects and town planners he joined Eskom in 1993. In 1999 he was appointed Deputy Chief Executive of Eskom, and Chairman Eskom Enterprises and served on the Eskom Management Board and the Electricity Council. READ MORE


Kuben Pillay

WK UWCSA (1972–1976)

Kuben serves on South African public and private corporate boards to which he brings diverse governance, management and board experience in legal, digital, transaction processing and media. These include being a lead independent director of Transaction Capital Limited (JSE: TCP), Sabvest Limited (JSE: SBV). READ MORE


Thakane Molapo

WK UWCSA (1974–1977)

Thakane is a newly appointed trustee of the Waterford Kamhlaba Foundation of South Africa. In her current position as Community Liaison at the American International School of Lesotho she is responsible for ensuring greater enrolment of local children in the American International School of Lesotho and building a stronger link between the school and the community.
