The Waterford Kamhlaba UWCSA Community express our most sincere and deepest condolences to Mrs. Nomazilo Leah Tutu  and the Tutu Family on the recent passing of Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Mpilo Tutu. Archbishop Tutu was an important figure in the history of Waterford as he and Mrs.Tutu, were courageous parents of the struggle who chose to entrust the education and security of their children to the College between 1971 and 1980.

To Trevor, Thandeka, Nontombi and Mpho the Waterford Kamhlaba community stands with you during this time and we hope that you may find comfort in the legacy your beloved father leaves behind. Duduzekani.

Our Principal, Patricia Angoy, “The world has lost a great human being who has led with wisdom, grace and always hopeful. He has touched us all irrespective of our religious or political beliefs but always sided with the poor, the just and those the world cast aside. We will always be uplifted by his ideals for a better world.”

Archbishop Tutu also served as patron of the Waterford Kamhlaba Foundation South Africa since 2010. Foundation Chair Sandile Hlophe said “As the Waterford Kamhlaba Foundation of South Africa, we are deeply saddened at the passing of Archbishop Tutu; he may be gone from our sight, but will forever remain in our hearts. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and the South African community. May our condolences bring you comfort and may our prayers ease the pain of this loss.”

While the world mourns this great loss, may we continue to share his legacy with the youth of today.  We will continue to learn from his teachings and strive to work towards the a future he envisioned for Southern Africa, the continent and the world.

May you rest in eternal peace,

Waterford Kamhlaba United World College, Southern Africa
